How do you go about starting a new church in a city? After much prayer, perhaps the most important step is choosing the right people to start the new congregation. Carlos and Maribel Preciado, with their two children, Gian Carlos and Isabel, are leading the church plant in Pompano Beach, a city north of Ft. Lauderdale., and I can’t think of a better family for this task. I am honored to be mentoring this godly family in this godly process.
Carlos and Maribel are some of the most magnetic personalities I know. They were part of the first LAMP team scheduled to arrive in Miami in 2005. After some internal problems within the team, they came by themselves and have been participating with the Griffin Rd. Church of Christ, waiting for God to open a door for a new work. Carlos is Mexican and Maribel is Colombian, and they use their diversity in a powerful way to reach the Latinos in South Florida. While we were having lunch at Pollo Tropical, a grilled chicken fast food restaurant, Carlos had a discussion with a Mexican patron and Maribel invited one of the employees!
The new congregation will begin meeting in the 6th St. Church of Christ building, which houses the English congregation as well as a Portuguese group. Please pray for their initial work of spreading the word about this new congregation.

I’m with the Brazilian church in Newark, NJ, and noticed you mentioned the Portuguese-language group. We had them at our annual retreat last year.
Glad to have found your blog and to hear about all the good work being done.

Hi Adam,
It’s good to know of faithful brothers who are reaching out to their language and culture groups. Tomorrow we will hand out tri-lingual flyers promoting the congregation: English, Portuguese, and Spanish. A Dios sea la honra y gloria!
